Three "New To Me" Fantasy Artists That I Like

The other day somebody asked me where I work.  I told them that I work for a company called Cable Label Sheets.  They gave me a funny look and asked me what is that?  I explained to them that I work for a company that makes labels that stick on cables.  They asked me how could a guy who seemingly has such a boring job appreciate the fine details and beauty of fantasy art?  I though that was kind of a stupid question, kind of like asking somebody that works at a grocery store how can they like beautiful cars, or why is it their wife is so attractive?  What does one have to do with the other, nothing!

Yes, I have a "low excitement", job but who I am at work, and what I do on my off time are two separate things. At work I literally deal with sheets of little pieces of paper with adhesives on the back.  Off work I search out beautiful and fantastic images, always looking for the next greatest fantasy artist, or looking for art that just speaks to me and make me smile.

Recently I had the pleasure of finding three new artists that I just love.  Tell me what you think.

Brooke Gillette - It appears that Brooke Gillette's official website is at http://brookegillette.weebly.com/.  Brooke is Vietnamese and immigrated to the United States as a teenager.  She has a degree from the University of California and attended the Art Institute.

Jackson Tjota -Jackson is from Indonesia.  He maintains a Facebook page, and a display of selections of his work at http://tjota.deviantart.com/

B.c.N.y. - B.c.N.y., (don't ask me what that stands for), is an artist from Taiwan.  From the information given on DeviantArt he is 28 years old.

When it comes to art everyone is an individual.  I think about what appeals to me about art. I would have to say "beauty", but as someone has once said beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I think about the emotions that art I like brings out of me, emotions like happiness, and joy.  I don't think there is an emotion called "pretty", but I do believe it can be a feeling.

I do know that "dark" art is very disturbing.  Sometimes I wonder where that emotion comes from.  Art that I don't even want to look at gives me the chills.  Almost as if I want to look at anything else besides it.  I think all of these feeling with art comes from the definitions of attractive and not so attractive that society has placed up on us.  What really fascinates me is when I have an emotion that goes against a "norm:" of society.  Where does that come from?

Well, let me close here.  I will continue to search the web for fantasy artwork.  Whether or not you like the artist that I have mentioned to today, tell me what your feelings are about them.  I would love to hear that.

Fantasy Art on The Web

Fantasy Art is a large body of artwork.  Because what is fantasy?  Something that is not true?  Something that is fantastic?  Is it something that is not reality or somehow conjured up in someone’s mind?  All of these things can be fantasy, along with many other things.  I tend to define fantasy as beautiful women, fantastic settings, mythical creatures, and heroes.   With fantasy art being the visual depiction of those things in an artistic manner.  I can’t really tell you exactly what about the art appeal to me.  More than likely it is the feelings that are invoked by the visual.

I would say that I always have a love for beautiful women, there is nothing more pleasurable that viewing a beautiful woman.  And, I’m not talking about in a sexual way, just a pleasing way.  Women attract me as a man, and I like to look.

Fantastic settings are always awe inspiring.  Even in reality there is nothing more breathtaking that to see beautiful scenery.  In my “job” I deal with technology.  I see wires, circuits, and man made hardware.  When I am on the web I see 1’s and 0’s, and code.  That is sterile, and impersonal.  But the raw scenery of nature inspires my heart.  Anyone who can look at nature and not see the God that made us is probably blind, which is sad.  Translate reality to fantasy, and you get even more vivid depictions of a scene that is fantastic.

Mythical creatures can be terrifying, they can also be comforting.  Take the example of a Pegasus, a winged mythical beast that is also a horse.  They are majestic, and powerful.  Or maybe visualizing a griffon or any other mythical creature conceived in a mans mind, and then brought to life in an image.

Heroes have the traits that we inspire to incorporate into ourselves.  Heroes are looked to for guidance, protection, and for comfort.  A true hero is a solid pillar of all the virtues that are good.  Heroes also have flaws as do we all, and at time those flaws are overlooked because of the true heroic nature of the inner man.

On the web, there are many examples of fantasy art.  A simple entry into any search engine will bring up hundreds of fantasy art websites and fantasy artists.  Don’t be afraid to check them out.  Decide what kind of fantasy art inspires you, and keep those images around to bring a bit of joy and inspiration into your day.

Fantasy Art World Wide: My First Post

Dear Friends,

Let me introduce myself.  My name is John Banner, and I live in Tempe, Arizona.  By day, I am a lowly cable guy.  I work for a sub contractor of one of the major cable companies here in the area.  My job is rather technical, dealing with machines, technology and all of the modern conveniences that make the 24/7 media world of 2013 function.  I enjoy what I do, and I have to admit that I am quite good at it.  By night I am a budding CFI.  For those of you who don't know a CFI is a "Certified Flight Instructor".  Currently I am studying to become a CFI.  Aviation is my passion! I have wanted to fly since I was 6.  I became a pilot when I was 23, and I became a Commercial pilot several years ago.  I have never worked in the world of aviation.  I fly because I love to fly, not to make money.  And by becoming a flight instructor I hope to someday pass on my love of aviation to other.  But I also have another passion, and that is Fantasy Art.  I enjoy finding new fantasy artist, I enjoy creating fantasy art (I draw and I paint), and I am also creative in Fantasy Photography.  This blog is about my passion for Fantasy Art.  My love of Fantasy Art lets me step away from my "technical" side and fully embrace and explore my "creative" side.  I hope to inspire, showcase, and lead others through the world of fantastic Fantasy Art in the posts to come.  I welcome any questions, comments, or general muses about what I post here.

Ok, let's get the basics out of the way about me.  I'm 47 years old, I'm Black, and I consider myself to be a very well rounded person.  I guess you would have to say that someone who can deal in the technical areas of life as well as the creative areas of live is well rounded.I have loved fantasy art for a very long time.  Honestly, I'm not even certain where this love came from.  But I know that I have it, and I embrace it!

Ok, let me start off by showing you some of my top 4 fantasy artists.  In order I would have to say that they are Boris Vallejo, Chris Achilleos, Rowena Morril, and Don Maitz.  Here are examples of their work:

Boris Vallejo
Chris Achilleos

Rowena Morril

Don Maitz

These are just some of the masters.  In this blog I am going to try and find and show off unnown and budding  fantasy artsts that I enjoy.  Also, I will probably tell you a little bit of my life on the way.  I hope you enjoy what you read.   I am always open to another persons opinions, even if it is to learn an opposite point of view.  I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Patrick
